An Introduction to Madeley White Star FC
We are a local community football club and are proud to have been awarded with FA Charter Club status.
Madeley White Star FC was founded in 1906 by a gentleman called Ernest Buckley, who was given a grant of £60 from the local church to set a team up. Madeley White Star were established from Madeley United with evidence from Staffordshire FA records dating back as far as 1894.
With over 120 years of history, we are proud to have accolades and support from national newspapers and footballing legends such as Sir Stanley Matthews and Gordon Banks OBE, it is no wonder that this club has been a proud bastion of local football.
In 2004, we made club history as our club showed, that we are not only one of the oldest junior football clubs around, but we are also up there with the best. We enjoyed a superb season that year, having won four cups on the Potteries Junior Youth League finals day at Stone Dominoes. The clubs Under 11s and Under 15s teams both clinched the league and cup double, whilst the Under 9s won the League Cup and the Under 10s won the Sub Cup.
In season 2016/2017 our Open Age Team was formed and they won the Staffordshire Challenge Cup, which they last season 2017/2018.
We are proud to have played a part in the football bareers of local lads Nathan Smith of Port Vale FC and Ollie Shenton of Stoke City FC, both who played for Madeley White Star teams before they were spotted by scouts and signed for their respective clubs.
At Madeley White Star, we want to be at the center of sports and activities for children and young people in Madeley and the surrounding areas. Our excellent pitches provie a fantastic, safe environment for children to enjoy sport, make friends and keep active.
After a few months of hard work, we are now confident, that we can become once again a hub of local football. Our aim is to help children and young people from as young as 4 years to develop their footballing skills, in a non-competitive, structured but fun environment with no pressure, offering them a pathway to join a team from U7s through to Open Age. We are based at Manor Road, Madeley, CW3 9PS
The sessions we provide focus of the FA Four Corners model, which focuses on technical skills - working on ball mastery, practise and group play, physcological - working on understanding, decision making and confidence, physical skills - working on co-ordination, conditioning, challenge and social skills, atarting with the basics and building up to more advanced skills as the children progress.
Our Saturday morning Football School is proving to be extremely popular and runs every week at Keele University during the winter months, moving to Manor Road during the summer months. It is for boys and girls of all abilities from ages 4 - 13 years and starts at 10:30am to 11:30am. The FA announce a renewed focus for the Respect campaign as it enters its 10th anniversary.
To kick off the 2019/20 youth football season, The Football Association has announced a renewed focus on the Respect campaign as it enters its ten year anniversary.
Originally launched in the 2008/09 season, the campaign’s new mantra of ‘We Only Do Positive’ aims to improve behaviour on touchlines across the country by raising awareness of Respect amongst a new generation of parents, coaches, volunteers and players.
The campaign follows extensive research carried out during the 2017/18 season to understand the effect of negative behaviour at football matches from Under 7s to Under 18s level more clearly, focusing on where Respect interventions would be most effective.
‘We Only Do Positive’ is The FA’s new strategic approach to emphasise the role of parents and coaches whilst highlighting the importance of positive behaviours and environments – both on and off the pitch – for young footballers involved in mini-soccer and youth football.
The FA’s Respect campaign aims to educate parents and coaches on their roles in creating a fun, safe and inclusive environment for players to ensure the campaign is embraced throughout the age groups and result in sustained participation from players and volunteers alike.

On behalf of all our children, parents, families and coaches who are associated with Madeley White Star, our committee would like to take the opportunity to thank the Sir Stanley Matthews Coaching Foundation for their generous support which will enable us to support and develop two FA Level 1 Coaches for two brand new teams that we have been able to set up, and also to support and develop three new club volunteers with FA Safeguarding qualifications.
Your support is fantastic, and is very much appreciated. We are a community club and have been established for 122 years and your generosity enables us to continue to encourage children of all abilities, in and around our local community to have fun, whilst learning to play football, developing their skills, making new friends and growing in confidence, whilst being in a structured but fun environment as part of the Madeley White Star family.
